What's the difference between wipes and paper towels

Many of us use wipes and antiseptic wipes in our lives, but most of us do not know what wipes are made of, and what is the difference between them and paper towels?
The difference between wipes and paper towels
We usually refer to household paper without liquid as paper towel, which is dry paper towel. Wipes are moist paper towels used to wipe the skin.
In our impression, the obvious difference between wipes and paper towels is that one is hydrated and the other is anhydrous. In fact, in addition to whether there is moisture, the special big difference between wipes and paper towels is the raw material.
A lot of people think that wipes are made of the same fabric as summer T-shirts, pure cotton or polyester or some other raw material, but it's not that simple.
Paper towel is mainly made of wood pulp, grass pulp, cotton pulp, etc. And wet wipes are divided into two kinds of raw materials: one is wet strength paper, one is non-woven, most of the wet wipes are used non-woven, then subdivided, raw material non-woven most of the water thorns.
Spunlaced non-woven fabric is a high-pressure microwater jet to a layer or multilayer fiber net, so that the fibers intertwine with each other, so that the fiber net can be strengthened and has a certain strength, the obtained fabric is spunlaced non-woven fabric. Its fiber raw materials from a wide range of sources, can be polyester, nylon, polypropylene, viscose fiber, chitin fiber, microfiber, tencel, silk, bamboo fiber, wood pulp fiber, seaweed fiber and so on.
Wet strength paper, so called wet strength paper, refers to the paper with wet strength agent. Generally judge wet strength paper, there are the following standards: wet strength/dry strength (tensile strength) >20%; Paper that, when damp or soaked in water, retains more than 15% dry strength and is resistant to rupture or dissociation.
Production ratio of wipes
In our life, most of the wipes are made of non-woven fabric, non-woven fabric is just a name, the production of non-woven fabric generally used raw materials are: polyester fiber, viscose fiber.
The wipes are not only made of polyester fiber or viscose fiber, but the manufacturers put the raw materials into production according to the proportion according to comprehensive considerations.
The polyester
Polyester is a chemical fiber from petrochemical industry, so it is not so soft and feels slippery, and it is easy to fluff after wiping. Meanwhile, polyester has poor hydrophilicity, so more water will stay on the skin during wiping. At the same time, because of the poor hydrophilicity of polyester, the moisture in the wipes will be affected by gravity. After being placed for a period of time, the upper wipes will tend to be dry, and the water content of the lower wipes will increase, which will bring some inconvenience to the use.
After the all-polyester wipes are used up, the chemical fiber is difficult to be completely degraded in the natural environment, and oil is also a non-renewable resource. Therefore, the use of polyester should be reduced from the perspective of environmental protection and use experience. However, polyester is still very popular among low-cost wipes due to its low price and lower cost.
Polyester wipes will emit a lot of black smoke and caking when the base material is lit after drying. This simple identification method provides a qualitative identification basis for whether the base material of wet wipes contains polyester
All viscose fiber
Viscose fiber is the fiber processed from natural plants. Depending on the source of the ingredients, there are three common ones.
Cotton pulp raw material production of viscose fiber for cotton non-woven fabric, usually yellow color, relatively common.
Viscose fiber produced by wood pulp raw materials, the color of this fiber will be brighter, the texture of the cloth is very soft, good water retention ability, relatively few domestic use; The viscose fiber produced by bamboo pulp is bamboo fiber nonwoven. The color of this kind of cloth is yellow and the color is relatively bright, which is less used in China at present.
The wipes using viscose fiber cloth can be degraded quickly in the natural environment, so they will not cause environmental pollution. The above three kinds of non-woven viscose fiber, after lighting can be completely burned, there is no residue in the ashes, this method can be relatively easy to determine whether the wet towel base material contains polyester.
Polyester + adhesive
Polyester fiber and viscose fiber are used as raw materials for wipes in proportion to cost considerations and the use comfort of wipes, but the proportions are usually different. The lower the proportion of polyester, the higher the softness of non-woven fabric, the higher the cost of cloth.
Generally, the proportion of polyester adhesive is controlled at the upper or lower level of 5:5. At this time, the wipes have moderate softness when used and are not easy to fluff after wiping, because the water retention of adhesive is better than that of polyester wipes. Therefore, the feel of the wipes is not so wet when the water quantity is increased.
After drying the base material cloth with a lighter will emit black smoke, according to the level of polyester content proportion, there is a certain proportion of hard blocks in the ashes.
